Projects
Looking for inspiration on how to create and develop patterns I wandered into my local library and picked up a book.
It is an excellent wee book full of wonderful ideas on how to collect inspiration from the world around me. Which is how all designers work.
There are projects with in the book set out to help create a collection. So I set myself the task of following the ideas set out.
They are set out in a logical sequence starting with an inspiration notebook.
Like many of you artists out there I have a plethora of note books and sketchbooks. So number one on the list already ticked off.
This is Khristian A Howell, the author of the book. Along with a number of her fellow designers, she has set out to help all of us new designers develop our skills. Learn a few tricks of the trade and how to organize our thoughts and ideas into finished patterns.
She says, “These exercises will help you not only to develop your pattern design skills but also help to view the world with eyes of a designer”.
Above are a few pictures from the book to give you an idea of the lay out and content. She has collaborated with several different designers to highlight the may differing styles and methods. Used to create surface pattern design. I highly recommend getting a copy of this book this book. I have found it to be an inspiration and it is the basis of the next few pages on this blog and gallery.
Over the coming weeks and months I will be adding to the projects page as I work my way through the tasks and exercises set out by Khristian and her friends in an effort to develop my skills and knowledge. With the view to developing my own collection of pattern designs. So Khristian challenge accepted and I hope you will be as inspired as me to follow in her foot steps.
